Abraham Lake is a man-made lake in western Alberta that was created by the construction of the Bighorn Dam. It is named after Silas Abraham, a nineteenth century inhabitant of the Saskatchewan River Valley. As the lake is situated on crown land, visitors can dry camp for up to fourteen days free of charge. In the winter, decaying plants along the lake's floor release methane gasses that become frozen bubbles trapped just under the ice surface, making the lake a popular winter destination for photographers.
